Make SEO-Friendly URLs in WordPress

Friendly URLs are one of the best ways to improve the search engine rankings of your blog posts. You do this by putting keywords in the URL itself and WordPress makes it simple via its Permalinks functionality.

Under Settings -> Permalinks: Select “Custom Structure.”

Personally I prefer having the post name and category as part of the URL. Some people like to add the date as well, but I find it unnecessary and unhelpful in terms of SEO.

In the textbox for “Custom Structure” I enter the following:


So now, instead of URLs that look like:
